Dread Maintenance

I thought it would be useful to give a breakdown of estimated maintenance time frames, in relation to hair state. It’s occurred to me how variable dread condition can be, so below is a rough idea to help inform you on time frames for maintenance working with me for your own dreads.

Untouched or never Maintained

If your hair has not been touched, is matted, you have dreads growing together, your hair needs ripping/cutting (I try avoid this) reconstruction / new dreads created along with dread shafts maintained…

A rough time guideline for 55+ dreads could be anywhere between 5 hr – 6.5 hrs

nesting

re-construction

comb outs

Maintained once a year

If your hair has been maintained maybe once a year but not quite as crazy as the above examples…it might be matted, you have dreads growing together, your hair needs ripping/cutting (I try avoid this) reconstruction / new dreads created along with dread shafts maintained…

For around 70 – 100 dread a rough timeframe could be anywhere between 5 – 6 hrs

For around 50 – 70 dreads a rough timeframe could be anywhere between 4 – 5.5 hrs

matting

root re-construction

Partial recreations

Maintained every 6-8 months

If your hair has been maintained maybe once every 6-8 months and you regularly root roll, palm roll and separate your dreads, there is NO matting, you have dreads that are cylindrical, you might have a few fuzzies , maybe loose hair needing pulled into dreads or a couple of new ones created along with dread shafts maintained…

For around 70 – 100 dreads a rough time frame could be anywhere between 4.5 – 6 hrs

For around 50 – 70 dreads a rough time frame could be anywhere between 3.5 -4.5 hrs

For around 25 – 40 dreads a rough time frame could be anywhere between 2.5 – 3.5 hrs
